September 2014 : Tiger Theatre Present their 2014/2015 One Act Play Production
‘Bill and Ben’
By Richard James
The action takes place in a cell at Newgate Prison, on the morning of 5th October, 1598.
Ben Jonson is spending his last day in his condemned cell, after killing an actor in a duel. He has a surprise visitor – William Shakespeare, who comes to plead with him to perform a ‘neck-verse’ – reciting a Psalm, that may save him from the noose. But what does Shakespeare have to gain?
· William Shakespeare: Adam Dryer
· Ben Jonson : Robert Thomson
Can you help? … come and join the group!
We need a Production assistant for this production, unfortunately this is an unpaid position but you will be able to claim expenses for travel to any of the One Act Play festivals the show is to appear in over the next 18 months
1. Attend rehearsals at the BARN THEATRE WELWYN (probably about 8 over the next four weeks starting 8th September) to help set up and prompt the bumbling actors (you don’t have to attend all but most would be useful)
2. Attend performances (some stage management duties – currently two dates in October 2014 then around 4-5 in 2015 – one act play festivals around the UK)

DMS non-professional theatre company Tiger Production has continues to enjoy success with its inaugural production ‘Just a Straight Man’ following awards at Maidenhead and Leatherhead. At the Haverhill festival last week the production scooped an impressive four awards including:
• Won: Best play
• Won : Best new play
• Won : Best stage presentation
• Won : Best Actor (Bob Thomson : Trevor )
• Nomination : Best Actor (Adam Dryer : Barney)
The tech team on the night did a terrific job with Rahul Shah working as stage manager and James Dean managing light and sound cues. Bob commented ‘to win awards and three of the top UK festivals is a great team effort, the play has only actually been performed in front of an audience three times, we had very limited rehearsal time or space. The backstage teams have done a great job getting the show ready in three very different theatres’ The show is back on the road soon visiting Welwyn Garden and that centre of cultural excellence Skegness, where it will be showcasing at the Butlins theatre (year really!)
DMS’ very own nonprofessional theatre company Tiger Theatrical Productions’ first play – ‘Just a Straight Man’ won best new play and came second overall at the Maidenhead One Act drama festival on Saturday.
This was its first performance and Tigers’ first foray into the world of live theatre. Despite a very short rehearsal period and some vagaries in textual delivery on the night well done to all involved! ‘Just a Straight Man’, features Bob Thomson and Adam Dryer as a dysfunctional comedy double with the Company providing technical and vocal support.
Still very much a work in progress the company were delighted by the enthusiastic reception the play got from both the adjudicator and more importantly audience members. The production will be presented at further festivals across the UK during 2013.
Thank you to James Dean from the TT Society for your support in stage management.

Tiger Theatrical Productions will be premiering a new one act play in 2013 ‘Just A Straight Man’.
The play features Bob Thomson as Trevor the straight man in a successful double act, Adam Dryer is Barney the funny guy. Shortly before the pair are to perform in front of a live crowd bitter resentments surface between the pair as hidden truths are revealed, skeletons come flying out of closets, all leading to a thrilling and disturbing climax.
The play has been selected for performances at a number of venues in the UK in 2013, more details to follow.
Tiger Productions was formed in 2013 as an non-professional theatre company. Members comprise of DMS employees and invited guests, although anyone may apply for membership.
The aims of the group are to be an active theatre club, both performing and attending productions. One key element is to support drama festivals and both one act and full length plays. Our inaugural production will be Edward Albee’s Zoo Story.
